Characteristics of the bridge

It was built in 1461 and crosses the Tagus River, and connects the municipal districts of Auñón and Sacedón. It is 88 metres long, 11 metres wide at its widest point and is covered with 3.40 metres of roadway. The height of the central arch above the water level is 17 metres.

History

On 23rd March 1811, during the War of Independence, it was captured by Juan Martín Díez, who in Spanish was known by the name El Empecinado (the Undaunted), during his stay in Sacedón. It was the only way across the Tagus and it was occupied by the French.

We can be reached using the road that runs from the N-320 to Sayaton, or from the dam by a road called “La visera” which is a place of great natural beauty as it is carved out of the cliff face of the Tagus ravine.
